Text Formatting to Change Line Spacing

There are two ways to achieve this.

  • We can use the Icon as shown in Graphic-1. This icon can be found in Formatting Toolbar.
  • We can use the Menu Bar and go to Format -- Paragraph and within Paragraph, go to tab "Indents and Spacing". This will resemble the screen as in Graphic-2 on the right. We can also reach this tab by pressing "More" in the Icon as shown in Graphic-1.

Under "Line Spacing", you can use different options:

  • If you need Single, Double or 1½ lines spacing, you can directly select them from the drop down box under "Line Spacing".
  • If you need line spacing which is more than double, then select "Multiple" and specify the number of lines in the "At" field. You can specify from 0.06 till 132 lines , in increments of 1/100 of a line. You get extremely fine line spacing control with this option.
  • By default, Word accomodates the largest text or graphic in a line. "At Least" sets a minimum amount of space for each line as mentioned in the "At" field. Any text with larger font size or a graphic larger than the line spacing specified is accomodated by increasing the line space.
  • When you specify the line spacing with "Exactly", any text with larger font size or a graphic larger than the line spacing specified will appear cut off as the line spacing will not be changed by MS Word.
